Ukraine has 80% of production capacity for the creation of building materials for reconstruction. This was announced by the head of the Committee for the Organization of State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional Development and Urban Planning, Olena Shulyak.
According to her, the cost of building materials for the reconstruction of Ukraine as of November 2022 has already reached $63 billion. The official emphasized that it is extremely important that these materials be produced in Ukraine, because then $16 billion of added value will remain in the Ukrainian economy.
In addition, from these funds, $5.6 billion will go to the salaries of people who will work at these enterprises. In this way, it will be possible to maintain 100,000 jobs and receive $1.5 billion in revenue for the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
"That's why we emphasize to international partners that domestic manufacturers of building materials will definitely take the main role in Ukrainian reconstruction," Shulyak commented. However, the politician stressed that not all building materials will be able to be produced by Ukraine. Some will have to be imported, including sheet glass, cement, concrete and PVC profile.
"In Lysychansk, we had a single factory for the production of sheet glass, but it was demolished in 2014, and it stopped working. We still haven't managed to build such an enterprise on the territory of Ukraine, and we are forced to buy glass in foreign markets with a large markup. Therefore, such conditions should be created in Ukraine so that foreign investors who want to build plants for the production of such material will come in," Shulyak explained.
