The French authorities intend to cancel a number of projects related to the expansion of road infrastructure in favor of the development of the railway network, said the delegate minister for transport, Clément Beaune.
Railway Gazette writes about it.
"Serious decisions will be made regarding highways in the coming weeks. Some road construction projects will be suspended," he said.
The minister emphasized that such a large-scale curtailment of infrastructure projects will be unprecedented for the country.
At the same time, he clarified that it is not a question of a complete rejection of all projects - "some, including those that have not yet been started, will be preserved because they are useful."
According to him, the rejection of new highways is connected, in particular, with the planning of an environmental policy designed to reduce damage to the environment
