140 thousand plants on the facade
In the Polish city of Poznan, an apartment building Aura will appear with a vertical garden on the facade with 140 thousand plants. The main aspiration of the architect was minimal intervention in the ecosystem and its enrichment. The building will be completely covered with greenery to become a visual extension of the land, similar to a hill.
Plants on the facade will grow on a special structure. A kind of air cushion will be created between it and the wall, which will act as a natural insulator, protecting the building from heating in hot weather. Plants will be watered using an automatic system that will use 90% of the collected on-site, thaw and rainwater. Automating the process will minimize traditional manual plant care.
"If we provide enough greenery in an accessible form, as we are doing with Aura, we have a chance to change the face of cities forever. Instead of "heat islands", we can create buildings that regulate humidity and air temperature both inside and around. Such architecture improves the aesthetics of the area and has a real impact on living conditions thanks to a favorable microclimate," explains the famous architect and author of the project, Robert Koniechny.
Aura will be the first such facility in Poland. Considering the innovativeness of the project, scientists from the Poznań Polytechnic and the University of Natural Sciences actively participated in its development. The building will be erected near the Citadel, one of the largest parks in Poznań, and will have the shape of an arch. A lot of greenery and a playground are planned around the house. Also, the landscape will be enriched by a picturesque pond, which will simultaneously serve as a reservoir.
The interiors will be designed by the Poznań artist Alicia Byala. For the lobby, she designed a ceramic lamp sculpture in the form of a plant and a bas-relief that reflects the connection between man and nature. The artist will cover the lamp and the sculptural composition with specially created glazes made from the soil of various areas of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The various mineral composition of the soils will determine the color of the glaze.
However, Aura will become an innovative project not only due to the architecture of the building. The developer also placed a strong emphasis on the comfort of apartment owners. The building will have five entrances with elevators for a total of 55 apartments. The homes will have heated floors and video intercoms with the ability to connect smartphones. In many apartments, two balconies are planned, which will receive light from two sides - south and north.
On the south side, spacious and sunny living rooms are designed with views of the cityscape and Citadel Park. Instead, the bedrooms will be mostly located on the north side. A spa center will also be located on the territory of the building. An underground parking lot and a bicycle storage room are planned next to the building.
