Scandinavian studios Henning Larsen and White Arkitekter are designing Stockholm Wood City, which will be the world's largest wooden residential complex. Dezeen writes about it.
Stockholm Wood City will be built in Stockholm's Sikla district. The developer Atrium Ljungberg called this project "the world's largest wooden city".
The project with an area of 250,000 square meters includes seven thousand office spaces and two thousand houses. The area will include elements related to nature, such as green roofs and large windows for natural light, and will create a forest feel.
The houses will be built from fire-resistant solid wood. Besides being a carbon-absorbing material and greener than concrete, there are other benefits to building cities out of wood, the developer says. A wooden structure has a significantly lower impact on the climate both during the construction phase and during the entire life cycle. In addition, Stockholm Wood City will also have its own energy production.
Construction will begin in 2025, and the first buildings are scheduled to be completed in 2027.
